How Can Sourdough Benefit Me?

Many have the misconception that sourdough is a sour-tasting hard bread, and this misconception has led many to avoid it. However, if you only take a few minutes to understand what sourdough bread and baked goods are all about, you would be amazed at how good they can taste, and how wonderful they can be for your body!

In comparison to store-bought white bread, which is pretty much chemical-based, our pure sourdough bread uses only natural ingredients and are thoroughly fermented for up to 20 hours! It is in this fermentation process that all the wonderful things happen! Did you know that the digestion of the bread you are eating starts during the fermentation process? This means that your body will easily absorb all the nutrients, vitamins and minerals, without overworking your digestive system.

As the natural leavening process that occurs before the dough goes into the oven pre-digest the sugars, the glycemic index (GI) of the loaf is also lowered, hence decreasing disruption in blood sugar levels. In comparison to white bread which has a GI of approximately 72 – 90, sourdough has a GI of 54, making it suitable even for those with diabetics.

We have seen our sourdough baked goods improve the health conditions of our customers who suffer from allergies, and we’ve experienced the gratitude that our customers with gluten intolerance or those that suffer from digestive issues have expressed. And it is exactly this that keeps spurring us to keep improving and creating new products! But sourdough bread and baked goods are not just for those who suffer from ailments, we have seen so many others, including young children enjoying them!

Labour Of Love

At SLim Bakes, each and every baked good that we sell is a product of our labour of love and effort. As all our products are 100% made of pure sourdough, the process that it takes to prepare them can take anywhere from 1 to 2 days. As sourdough lovers ourselves, we have made it our mission to understand everything about it, thus ensuring that you receive some of the best-baked goods in town!

And the best part about sourdough bread is that you can keep it for a longer period of time without having to worry about it going bad! The nature of the dough, and its pH level of it, makes it a hostile environment for moulds, so you can easily have it on your countertop for up to a week or frozen in your freezer if you want to store it for longer. You simply have to spritz some water on it, and warm it up in your toaster or on a pan to get it back to its original condition!

Our fresh bakes are available from Thursdays to Sundays, and you can look forward to exciting new bread and flavours!
